The birth of Down Under Discoveries was not merely a business venture; it was a profound awakening sparked by moments of revelation and cultural immersion. It all began with a transformative journey through Jawoyn country in the Northern Territory, in June 2009, where the ancient landscapes and rich traditions of the Aboriginal people ignited a deep connection within.
It was on a cruise through the majestic gorges of Nitmiluk National Park that the seeds of inspiration were sown. Guided by a young Aboriginal man, the experience unfolded like a tapestry of stories, revealing the sacred significance of ancestral figures such as Bula, Ngalyod, Baru, and Yagjagbula. As the tales of creation and heritage echoed through the rugged cliffs and meandering waterways, a profound sense of belonging enveloped the soul.
Amidst tears of awe and wonder, a realization dawned – a calling to share the essence of this land, and in that moment the vision for Down Under Discoveries was conceived. A heartfelt commitment to share the magic of Australia's natural beauty with the world.
From our humble beginnings as a charter company, we embarked on a journey of expansion and evolution. The transition to offering full-day tours across Western Australia opened doors to remote wilderness and hidden treasures, while the integration of forest therapy hikes years later introduced a new dimension of wellness and communion with nature.
Yet, our journey was not without its challenges. The move to the Great Southern region in 2018 brought its own set of trials, as we navigated the complexities of unfamiliar terrain and weathered the storm of a global pandemic. But through every obstacle, we remained steadfast in our dedication to our values and mission.
Following the upheaval of the pandemic, a period of reflection ensued. After a decade in the tourism industry I made the decision to close the doors of Down Under Discoveries and transition into the Mental Health industry in the role of The Eco Therapist. This period of immersion in the healing power of nature allowed for deep introspection and personal growth, as I guided others on their own journeys of self-discovery and wellness.
In 2022, the calling of family and greater opportunities beckoned, drawing us away from the Great Southern and towards a new chapter in Mandurah. Bid farewell to the rugged landscapes that had become our home, we settled into the tranquil surroundings of Mandurah, ready to embrace the next phase of our journey.
Armed with newfound insights and a renewed sense of purpose, the time came to reawaken Down Under Discoveries. With a commitment to authenticity, sustainability, and holistic wellness, we reopened our doors as a certified eco-tour operator in the Peel region. Embracing adventure therapy, wellness retreats, and community engagement, we embarked on a new chapter guided by the belief that true discovery lies not only in exploring the external world but also in the journey of self-discovery and connection to something greater than ourselves.
Today, as we stand amidst the serene landscapes of Mandurah, Down Under Discoveries embodies the spirit of resilience, passion, and purpose.
