We had an amazing time supporting this year’s #OutdoorsOctober campaign, 'Get Outside for Mental Health', perfectly aligned with our mission to nurture mental wellness through nature.
Research shows that just 2 hours a week outdoors can boost mental health and reduce chronic disease risks—proof that nature is our best ally.
Some highlights from our month!
Mandurah Seascapes Coastal Walking Tour — Held on World Mental Health Day, this special day brought together 15 outdoor industry leaders. Participants connected deeply with the landscape in a powerful blend of nature and ocean therapy, a visit to Thomas Dambo's 'Santi Ikto Giant, explored fascinating shipwreck stories, and discovered ancient limestone formations dating back 2.5 million years.
Estuary Escapades Dolphin Watching Adventure — There’s nothing quite like paddling through the Mandurah estuary, where the magic of nature comes alive. We journeyed through serene waters, searching for playful dolphins in their natural habitat and embracing the peaceful rhythm of the estuary. This experience always reminds us of the importance of conservation and the beauty of connecting with local wildlife.
Upskilling & Adventure Day — Sophie took part in a hands-on Outdoor Adventure Day with @South Metro Tafe to Rottnest Island, Western Australia, gaining invaluable insight into how Team Rotto showcases one of Western Australia's most iconic destinations. This experience offered her new skills and fresh inspiration for elevating our own tour offerings, allowing us to bring even more to our outdoor adventures.
Kambarang Celebration — As we welcomed the Noongar season of Kambarang, the time of birth and reawakening, we reflected on the themes of growth and transformation within our own journey. Practicing gratitude for the abundant flora and fauna surrounding us in our own home reminds us of nature’s powerful cycles and inspired our renewed commitment to deeper connections with our environment.
New Beginnings — This month also marked a new chapter with our rebrand! Inspired by Kambarang’s energy, our new look reflects our connection to earth and water, a beautiful balance of stability and flow. These elements symbolize the deeper, evolving connections we strive to foster within ourselves, with others, and in harmony with the natural world.
Celebrating Success — We’re thrilled to be anounced as finalists in two categories in the Alcoa Peel Business Excellence Awards, and Chelle’s wildflower photo made the top ten in the Kings Park and Botanic Garden Flowers in Focus competition Plus, we’re excited to announce that Down Under Discoveries has been shortlisted for the WA Outdoor Industry Awards, along with Sophie who is in the running for the Young Achiever Award. Yay go Sophie. Wish us luck for the big days in a few weeks.
And, of course Outdoors October would not be complete without our own outdoor trail adventures to keep that all-important balance between work and life.
It’s been a powerful month of growth, connection, and celebration. Here’s to continuing our journey with you all, one step at a time.
"October is a reminder that nature’s wonders are best experienced outdoors, where every step is an invitation to connect, explore, and grow."
