However, here’s an overview of what you’ll need:
For the hiking component on Day 1 & 2, a full overnight hiking kit is required, including: Backpack Tent Sleeping mat Sleeping bag Pillow Head torch Hiking poles (if needed). Cooking equipment is not required for nights one and two, as we provide a group-cooked camp-style meal. However, if you wish to have a cooked breakfast on days two and three, you may need to bring your own lightweight cooking setup.
For the kayaking component on Day 2 & 3, it is more or less the same with hiking, and we provide a large dry river bag for your overnight essentials.
For the hiking component on Day 3, a lighter day pack would be ideal.

Night 1 – 'A True Wilderness Experience!' Immerse yourself in the serenity of the Bibbulmun Track, spending the night at an authentic trail shelter, just as countless adventurers have before. Nestled deep within towering forests, this rustic campsite offers a back-to-nature experience, where the crackling campfire and a sky full of stars provide the perfect retreat after a day on the trail.
Night 2 – 'Sleeping Where the River Meets the Sea!' Drift off to the soothing sounds of the ocean as you camp amongst the sand dunes at the Donnelly River mouth, a remote, roadless paradise where the river spills into the wild Southern Ocean. With only the stars above and the rhythmic waves below, this is an experience of true solitude, connection, and untouched beauty.
Night 3 – 'A Coastal Escape in Comfort!' After days of adventure, enjoy a well-earned night of comfort and relaxation in twin-share accommodation at the Margaret River Beach Resort. Located near the coast, this retreat allows you to refresh, unwind, and soak in the tranquil beachside atmosphere. (Single supplement available for those seeking a private space.)
This adventure is designed to be challenging yet achievable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness and a sense of adventure.
The hiking components are moderate and, with a little training, accessible to most people. While some overnight hiking experience can be beneficial, it’s not essential as we will guide you through packing, preparation, and trail techniques to ensure you feel confident and well-equipped. Our pace is steady and enjoyable, allowing time to truly appreciate the landscape rather than rushing to the destination.
The paddling component requires a bit more endurance, as we cover 11km along the Donnelly River. While the river itself provides a calm and sheltered environment, the distance can seem daunting to those new to paddling. However, we take regular breaks, and you’ll be paddling in double kayaks, meaning you’ll have a partner to share the effort, helping to ease the challenge and keep the journey enjoyable.
This experience is about immersing yourself in nature, not racing through it. If you have a willing spirit and an adventurous mindset, you’re more than capable of embracing and completing this journey!

As we paddle through the mist-laden waters, the river’s serenity is at its most profound—mirror-like reflections, the soft calls of morning birdlife, and the rhythmic dip of paddles setting the tone for the day ahead. This final stretch offers a chance to fully absorb the stillness of this hidden waterway, embracing one last moment of its quiet magic. Leaving the river behind, we transition into the enchanting Boranup Forest, stretching our legs on a short walk through the towering Karri trees, engaging in Forest Therapy practices to deepen our connection to the landscape. The journey then carries us past vine-dotted valleys as we make our way into the Margaret River Region, where the next stage of our adventure awaits. Our arrival is met with a gourmet grazing experience, a slow and indulgent pause where we savor fresh cheeses, artisanal breads, seasonal fruits, and handcrafted delights—a feast that nourishes both body and soul while offering time to reflect on the journey so far. As the afternoon unfolds, we take to the Cape to Cape coastline, hiking a rugged, windswept trail where towering cliffs, secluded coves, and endless ocean vistas create a breathtaking backdrop. Each step is a reminder of nature’s raw, untamed beauty, a landscape shaped by time, tide, and the elements. To reinvigorate our bodies and awaken the senses, we conclude our hike with a cold water immersion, a refreshing plunge into the crisp, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean—an exhilarating way to cleanse and recharge after days of movement and adventure. As evening sets in, we check into our coastal accommodation, a well-earned space to relax, refresh, and unwind. Our journey then culminates in a beautifully curated meal at the Margaret River Tuck Shop, a beloved local gem where native flavors, fresh seafood, and a warm, inviting atmosphere provide the perfect setting for a final gathering. Over delicious food, we share laughter, stories, and a deep sense of gratitude—for the land, for the experience, and for the journey that has carried us through some of Western Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes.

Our first stop is the Blackwood Cafe in Nannup, where you’ll enjoy a delicious morning tea, stretching your legs before continuing deeper into the Southwest’s breathtaking wilderness. Arriving at One Tree Bridge, we lace up our boots and step onto the renowned Bibbulmun Track for an exhilarating day of hiking. This section is a true highlight of the trail, offering awe-inspiring views of the Donnelly River, dramatic cascading rapids, and the track’s official halfway point. Along the way, we pause for a trailside packed lunch near Chappels Bridge, taking in the tranquil sounds of the river and the towering Karri forests that define this landscape. Crossing two iconic suspension bridges, we immerse ourselves in the magic of the ancient forest, feeling the grounding energy of the trees and the rhythmic flow of the water. This 12.2 km journey is both invigorating and deeply enriching, setting the tone for the adventure ahead. As the sun dips below the towering karri and jarrah trees, we arrive at our traditional Bibbulmun-style hut, a rustic yet welcoming retreat in the heart of the wilderness. The air carries the crisp scent of eucalyptus, blending with the earthy aroma of smoldering wood as the campfire crackles to life. Tonight, we feast under a canopy of ancient trees and endless stars, indulging in a thoughtfully crafted, Earth & Ember: Campfire Gourmet Experience. What awaits is a four-course bush tucker-inspired menu that celebrates the deep connection between land, food, and culture. Every dish is infused with native ingredients, honoring the rich flavors of the southwest. With each bite, we embrace the warmth of the fire, the rhythm of the night, and the simple joy of sharing good food in great company.
Day 2 | (Departing 7:30am) | Boarding House Campsite to Donnelly River Mouth (1km hike n 12km paddle)
As dawn breaks, we greet the morning with an early breakfast, pack up camp, and set off on a short 1km walk to our pick-up point on Paling Road—where our next adventure begins. The morning unfolds with a journey along the Karri Explorer Drive Trail, immersing ourselves in the towering beauty of the Big Karri Tree and soaking in the breathtaking views from the Warren River Cedar Lookout. A peaceful stop at Big Brook Dam offers a moment of reflection, with an optional swim for those keen to embrace the crisp, fresh waters. From there, we roll into Pemberton, where we’ll enjoy morning tea at Wild at Heart Café, refueling for the adventure ahead. For those feeling adventurous, the next stop is the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree, a thrilling climb that rewards the daring with panoramic forest views from its 20m-high platform. Then, it’s on to Beedelup Falls, where cascading waters and misty air set the perfect tone for our transition into the next phase of the journey. Leaving the forest behind, we shift from land to water, making our way to the Donnelly River Boat Ramp. This hidden waterway winds through vast national parks and state forests for most of its 151-kilometre stretch, but we’ll be paddling its final, most remote 12-kilometre section—a truly untouched corner of the Southwest. Gliding through the tranquil waterway, we’re surrounded by towering limestone cliffs, ancient Jarrah forests, and sweeping coastal plains, with the distant call of the ocean growing stronger. We take time to pause where possible, soaking in the stillness before continuing our paddle towards the river mouth, where freshwater meets the wild Southern Ocean. Our journey ends at a secluded dune-side campsite, untouched by roads or civilization. Here, we settle in for the night, embracing the raw beauty of the coastal wilderness. As the sun sets, we set out on a gentle wander, exploring the delicate ecosystems that thrive in this remote landscape. As darkness falls, we gather at the river’s edge, where the forest meets the sea. The salty breeze carries whispers of the tides, blending with the warmth of the crackling fire. Stars scatter across the sky, their reflection dancing on the gentle ripples of the Donnelly River. Tonight, we indulge in Ocean Harvest: A Coastal Campfire Feast comprising of a four-course bush tucker-inspired menu, celebrating the bounty of both land and ocean. Citrus-kissed seafood, wild coastal greens, and native spices come together in a feast that echoes the rhythms of the waves. Each dish tells a story of place, of connection, of the untamed beauty that surrounds us. The distant crash of the waves sets the tempo for an unforgettable evening, where the simplicity of fire-cooked flavors and the vastness of the wild remind us of the magic in every moment.
Day 3 | (Departing 6:00am) | Donnelly River Mouth to Margaret River (11km paddle n 7km hike)
With the first light of dawn filtering through the dunes, we rise early, packing up camp before retracing our path along the Donnelly River.
Day 4 | (Departing 7:45am) | Roadtrip Margaret River to Perth
Our final morning begins with breakfast at the beloved White Elephant Beach Café, where the salty sea breeze, warm hospitality, and open-air seating provide the perfect setting to ease into the day. With uninterrupted ocean views and a laid-back coastal atmosphere, it’s an ideal moment to reflect on the journey over a delicious meal, savoring the last taste of Margaret River’s relaxed charm. From here, the morning is yours to explore the heart of Margaret River. Whether browsing boutique shops, admiring local art galleries, or simply soaking in the town’s vibrant energy, this unhurried time allows you to take in the essence of this unique region before we begin our journey back to Perth.
